Young Professionals Challenge 2024

Dear all,

Are you above 35? Then we need your help recruiting all your young colleagues and to cheer the ideas during the events..

Are you under 35 and interested in coastal flooding and erosion risk management? Then the Kring Young Professional challenge want to hear your ideas on…

How can engineering solutions to tidal flood protection at the embankments adjacent to the Darent Industrial Estate (summary attached) contribute to UNSDGs, whilst adapting to climate change?

How can engineering solutions to tidal flood protection at the embankments adjacent to the Darent Industrial Estate (summary attached) contribute to UNSDGs, whilst adapting to climate change?

The primary focus of the challenge is Goal #15 ‘Life on Land’, and it is essential for all solutions to show evidence of a 20% net gain in biodiversity. Your solutions may also wish to consider 2 or 3 of the other UNSDGs and must not have a negative impact on any of the goals.

You may wish to give a presentation, talk through a poster, make a video, or perform a mime or dance- the choice is yours! The judging panel will be a mix of experts in a range of subjects, so you must be sure to convince them that your solutions have sound engineering bases whilst ensuring that the biodiversity of the area improves, and the decisions made are sustainable for the future.

The scoring criteria is as follows:

  1. Sustainability – what impact do your ideas have on the UNSDGs and how well do they ensure biodiversity net gain? Have you integrated sustainability with engineering?
  2. Innovation – how creative are the solutions, what novel techniques have you suggested?
  3. Persuasiveness – how persuasive are you? Have you convinced the engineers, politicians and ecologists?
  4. Presentation – how engaging or unusual is your presentation (or not boring)?
  5. Feasibility – how credible and feasible are the ideas to deliver?

Save the dates:
